Aaron Edward
Aaron Edward Eckhart (born March 12, 1968) is an American film and stage actor. Born in California, his father relocated the family to England when Aaron was 13. For his senior year in high school, Eckhart attended Cobham Hall, where he participated in school plays. He left the school without graduating, but earned his diploma via a correspondence course. In 1994, he graduated from Brigham Young University (BYU) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in film. Eckhart spent much of the mid-1990s in New York as a struggling, unemployed actor.
While in BYU, Eckhart met director/writer Neil LaBute, where he cast Eckhart in several of his original plays. Five years after they parted ways, Eckhart made his film debut in LaBute’s black comedy In the Company of Men (1997), in which he played an unctuous sociopathic ladies' man. After working again with LaBute in Your Friends & Neighbors (1998), Eckhart gained recognition in the 2000 film Erin Brockovich . He further collaborated with LaBute in Nurse Betty (2000) and as the romantic lead in Possession (2002).
In 2006, he earned praise for his portrayal of Nick Naylor in Thank You for Smoking , which earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. Eckhart played the role of district attorney Harvey Dent and his villainous alter-ego Two-Face in the 2008 film The Dark Knight . He performs predominantly in leading roles in a variety of low-budget and major studio films, ranging from romantic comedies and drama to science fiction and action thrillers. Aside from acting, Eckhart has developed an interest in photography, and has given up smoking and drinking. He was in previous relationships with Emily Cline and Kristyn Osborn.
