Gary Kemp (born 16 October 1959, in Islington , London) is an English pop artist who was the guitar player and chief songwriter for the 1980s Synthpop band Spandau Ballet. His brother Martin Kemp played bass guitar in the band. He also provided backing vocals on many of the tracks to lead singer Tony Hadley.
Later career
After recording Spandau Ballet's final album, Kemp and his brother became actors. He won the contempt of his fellow band members, but good reviews for his performance as Ronnie Kray in The Krays (1991). Making this film was the death-knell to Spandau Ballet.
He was married to actress Sadie Frost with whom he had one son, Finlay Munro (born 1990). The couple divorced in 1997, after she left him for Jude Law. Kemp is now married to costume designer Lauren Barber with whom he now has another son Milo Wolf.
He recorded a solo album called Little Bruises in 1995, but its lack of success has meant that he has not made another album since. He has written songs with a number of other writers for other artists, however not many of them have actually been recorded and released. Two of his songs did appear on the debut album by American soap star Jacob Young in 2001. He then made an abortive attempt to reform Spandau Ballet in 2004. He now uses to MySpace to get his music heard
He has also written two productions with Guy Pratt for the stage: "Bedbug" which was performed in a variety of venues during the Shell Connections Youth Drama Festival in 2004; and "A Terrible Beauty" which is based on the life of William Butler Yeats & Maude Gonne. This has yet to find financial backing.
Songs from "A Terrible Beauty" are now available to hear on his official site (see links below).
Gary will be appearing on a Celebrity special of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire with his brother Martin in the new year.
